Mahlzeit!...

With thanks to Daniel Spoerri ...

Amen!

Litzmannstadt-Getto

Today I bought the book "Traces of the Litzmannstadt-Getto" A Guide to the Past, written by Joanna Podolska.

I can say one thing: it's horrifying...

It gives all, really ALL, the details - facts - about streets, houses and so on and the events which took place there. Don't read it, unless you have a strong stomach.

But from now on we can identify every single place in the former getto.

If you are stubborn person, like to learn things the hard way, here is the website after the book.

But... we will inform you anyway, our discoveries, day by day, your daily meal...

So stay in touch!

The Killing of the Queen

We visited the Galeria Bałucka at Stary Rynek 2 in Baluty. There was a exhibition of 'grafika' from Wawrzyniec Strzemieczny . One piece in particular took my attention.

Title: "Killed Queen"

detail of "Killed Queen"

In the park in front of the gallery stands this magnificent oak. But still I look in a different way at the landscape. No traces of blood in the snow?

A little bit further a boy is playing in the snow. At the very moment I took the picture I see him thinking about throwing a snowball towards me. Probably there it starts...

And we all trew snowballs. Didn't we?

The lunatic fringe... Hate.

It has also to be mentioned. Just outside 'Stare Baluty'. In this neighbourhood...

Against or for what exactly?

Then: these sick signs of hatred

The well known toxic mixture of nationalism and xenophobia.

And worse, which I will not show because I should have had to use the sign explicit on this message which only attracts more attention...

And this neighbourhood again. What's wrong?

Map Bałuty - our focus

Eventual we decided to focus on Stare Bałuty and in between which lines...

Our "work-area" is in between the lines Zachodnia, Limanowskiego/Zawiszy, Franciszkanska, Wolborska/Stary Rynek/Podzeczna.

There could be also a family involved from an area not exactly in between these line but close.

Wodka Polska (or: typical Polish snowman)

This Typical Polish snowman - as Gosia said - stood at Stary Rynek
